While the survey numbers give a sense of the overwhelming support for the retention and refurbishment of Westgate Hall, peopleŐs own words are the best way in which we can show the strength of the communitys support towards the Westgate Hall and its proposed future as a community centre.
Such a valuable resource for the community - once it's lost we'll never get it back
This Hall is essential for the city and there are so many uses it can cater for all. As there is no other similar building in the city it would be disastrous for it to be lost.
Do you have the Archbishop on side? If not, might be a good idea. There is no equivalent public Hall in Canterbury - we mustn't loose it
KEEP WESTGATE HALL
Canterbury needs a Hall for general use within the city
I attend a monthly meeting in the Westgate Hall. There is no where else in the centre of town where we could meet. A lift to the first floor would be very helpful as some of our ladies are disabled. We are a small group of about 20 ladies. We have talks, some illustrated so a room with curtains is essential. We are all retired.
High rental rates currently mean that community groups find it hard to use the Hall. If these rents could be lower then I would fully support any efforts to keep the Hall up and running. We need more activities for families & young people here, not car parking spaces! Thank you for your hard work towards this worthy cause.
I feel that the Hall should be given and use for the community as bus + taxi fares after 11pm (buses you can't get) taxi after midnight are two expensive to use to go outside Canterbury.
We've had an absolutely brilliant day - hope to see many more of them.
Would like the Hall to continue to be used as a community centre - have attended dance classes here for several years - that is the only large area dance floor in Canterbury.
I do recall the Westgate Hall being the Drill Hall and going there for annual inspections as a St John Ambulance cadet in the 1960's.
More information could be provided of what is offered i.e. dance etc. & when, in a leaflet through the letterbox. Otherwise, all good. Hope the building stays!
Priority should be given to accommodating weekly classes run on set days of the week. The commitment to blood transfusion service prevents this currently.
This initiative is excellent. We need community-driven projects like this. Let the city council get on with what it is there for and free up the Hall for the community, run by the community.
I've wanted to try out salsa classes here but due to university and work commitments have yet to find the opportunity. It would be a terrible shame to miss this all together because the Hall is closed.
A car park space!! Who are the council kidding!! They should be ashamed of themselves at a time when communities all over the UK are in need of strengthening and coming together. We need to keep our communities alive!!
Keep it as the Westgate Hall. I have lots of memories of the Hall when i worked here i used to come over from Herne Bay from the Kings Hall and help prepare banquets or any other does and it would be a shame if you lost this building - its a part of Canterbury's history.
ItŐs great to see people passionate about keeping it going!!
Perhaps have more music events, indoor boot fair in winter?
The use of salsa in the Hall is great, we travel from Faversham and friends come from Whitstable due to a lack of community groups. The Hall is for all of Kent not just Canterbury. Consider decreasing O/N parking if you want more use!
We come for salsa and its an amazing space - as close to a ballroom as amateurs will get! Keep it open.
Please keep it open, do not knock it down to make parking places, or anything else that is not relevant to the whole community
Please Maintain Site As A Community Building And Avoid Adding Poorly Designed Housing Projects
Insufficient advertising of facilities and events
Keep it alive
Pedyree dolls used to use Westgate Hall for xmas dances
I like the way the Westgate Hall is and has been offered a community service over the years and hope it continues to do so.
Not another car park - please more park & ride facilities
The Westgate Hall is currently used for blood donations - where would these go?
Canterbury has 3 park and ride carparks plus lots of short stay car parks and adequate coach parking, a large bus station and 2 train stations. We don't need or want another car park!
The Hall should be retained for the community and all its activities. There is more than enough concrete set aside for cars already!
The Hall is a vital meeting place for all sorts of activities and groups within the community and it would be huge loss if it was demolished for whatever reason. It should not even be considered!
Why pull it down when there is no similar Hall & a credit crunch?
Given sustainability issues, need for community facilities & the popularity of the Hall for salsa etc. It would be a TRAVESTY to put a carpark here - you are supposed to be reducing car use and promoting public transport.
I really love salsa classes here as there is plenty of space for several ability groups at the same time.
I already take part in ballroom & salsa classes at university but I've enjoyed the salsa class here, it's run very well & I've learnt a lot from it.
I like it the way it is!
We have enough car parks
I think that a lot of people use the Hall for many things. I love the dancing and socialising.
I think the Hall is being well managed and used for good causes
It's all Good
This is a great space that is not being used to its full potential. There is nowhere else like it in Canterbury, would be a big shame to lose it.
I really like how it is used for salsa classes at the moment as they are really enjoyable and i would like them to continue
Absolutely excellent
Fantastic venue for salsa. Very popular class with good facilities. Bar is well run. Would feel very sad if Hall had to close.
Great venue for salsa classes.
Depending on overlap with other services/ provision (and therefore funding!) an IT training suite and/or adult basic literacy and numeracy classes would be a very useful community provision.
Canterbury writers would like a room.
Canterbury city centre has enough residential property in the surrounding areas traffic and parking will always be a problem, do not make it any worse.
Too expensive - all other comments spring from this.
It would be a complete shame to lose this Hall. Please don't knock it down
I think it would be a dreadful shame to lose it. A community centre that people can walk/cycle to is central to any idea of community. It would also force people to travel in cars to such centres further afield, increasing congestion and worsening air quality, issues that the city council is supposed to be improving.
There should be a weekly antique/bric-a-brac/arts and crafts event.
Please keep animate arts company in green gecko studios as it is an ideal place and animate give a lot back to the community.
Keep the salsa classes.
Keep the salsa and any other functions as once the Westgate Hall is demolished where are our local venues to take place in such a central location?
Offers a good range of facilities - no other similar venue in city itself/ walking distance fro residents and students etc to share activities. Where were you planning to announce election results otherwise?
A weekend or drop-in creche would be an excellent facility to offer busy parents popping in to Canterbury to shop - much easier to have somewhere safe to leave kids rather than dragging them round the shops. (Kingsmead leisure runs a good one which could be consulted as a role model). I run toddler group and currently rent St Stephens parish room for local mums and kids etc. Despite living near westgate hadn't considered it as a venue as the publicity for room hire is not in clear evidence (a sign at the door would help) and it is usually closed.
I wish you success of course - the sooner the better.
We do not need more driving and carparks we need places for the young to go in particular, as they have few facilities at their disposal: we're failing them. There are many uses the building could be put to - a childrenŐs theatre for instance (see the world famous Palo Alto childrenŐs theatre which served generations of children in California). Good luck.
A city of this size needs a community centre. Could be used as a voting centre - easier to get to than the GuildHall! Should be redecorated. Introduce a cafe. Evening classes. Saturday indoor market. We would be willing to sign a petition and I'm sure other residents would also support you.
The Hall is an amenity we must not lose I applaud the setting up of a trust.
The Westgate Hall is a very important part of our community and me and my family would be saddened to see it demolished to make way for a car park. Buildings like Westgate Hall are a fantastic way for the community to work together, support each other and keep community spirit alive.
My experience only relates to use by community groups. This is a very valuable facility that should remain as there are very few of such size, easily available in the city at a reasonable cost. One problem is a lack of disabled access to the upper floor rooms.
I have noticed that it seems to be used much more than most meeting places. When I pass it is rarely closed or empty.
Have no idea how Westgate Hall is being run or managed: that's the problem. It doesn't seem to be promoted at all yet it is in the heart of the city. Have only circled monthly as spend a lot of time away from Canterbury. If there was a range of activities at the Hall (well advertised) we'd love to be involved with them and attend various classes. Why can't some of the adult education classes be held in the Hall? (we don't attend evening classes/events outside central Canterbury because of having to rely on the buses).
As you will know these decisions are made well before they are announced - if you want to save W/H you will need to find sum CCC is looking to save (£400k I think) elsewhere - eg. not building the extension at westgate gardens Tower House. A tall order. Plus the W/H does need refurbishing as it has become run down. Your could campaign to save the Hall but your real aim could be to save the area for the local community - with the objective of building a Hall that is more suitable. Once the land is lost to parking it will never return to the community. In the meantime it could become a garden to allotments - if enough people petition for allotments land, local councils have to provide some land. I would certainly put my name down for one! plus Pound Lane used to be a botanical garden so it would be reintroducing it to its earlier use.
The Hall is a great venue. Visitors come to Canterbury and like to come to the Hall, for antiques, gardening events Book club, railway memorabilia social functions. The only Hall left in Canterbury for social events. People younger than me would be happy to pay. I have to go to Petham every week to play whist. I was on the committee to save the Sydney Cooper centre but we lost it. The council has to realise the people of Canterbury need a centre.
It is imperative that this Hall should be used in the interests of Canterbury residents and not demolished. Use of space for more cars should not be within the city walls, why not opposite sainsburys? For a multistory carpark if it is so imperative to have such a thing.
1. Those interested in using the Hall really need to know what the cost would be; those who'd like to hire it for private events may not be able to afford to do so - presumably the lower the cost the more people would use it. 2. could parts of the Hall be used for small theatrical productions? some AMDRAMS might be interested a) for rehearsals and b) actual performances. Inexpensive staging blocks would of course be needed. 3. How about garden and produce shows? reading groups? auctions? fashion shows?
Wonder if more posters promoting w/Hall and activities available there might help and get more people to use it.
As an old person with access to an excellent Hall my (south) side of the town I must honestly admit I do not have a great use for it (though I often used it as a blood donor and went to many (e.g. political) meetings there. The idea that we need the space for car-parking when we have park and ride etc is repugnant. I am sure there is a real need for activities such as you name to have a building and i hope you have a good response to this questionnaire.
We don't want more parking spaces - we want less cars in the city (and everywhere else!!) Canterbury absolutely needs a community centre in the centre of the town.
I do not actually use the Hall myself however I believe it is essential to keep a community centre in the city itself. It increases the community spirit and regenerates a city life style. In addition it is environmentally positive as people can walk there.
The increase in traffic in narrow access roads is a strong negative factor: should really be decisive on its own even if community use of the Hall is not thought persuasive.
I was involved the last time the demolition of the Hall was proposed. The council did not keep it up to the standard or advertise it well and the same thing has happened this time. Park and ride buses could be used to bus in patrons for the Marlowe so no extra parking will be needed. There is no other Hall this size in Canterbury and it is needed. NO one has asked for the demolition in their places - do they expect it to fall down?
Managed well - ideal for events.
I come to Westgate Hall because it is disabled friendly and I can visit it easily when functions occur.
I feel the Hall should not be pulled down. It should be maintained for the use by the wider community eg it is used by the blood transfusion service, dance groups, for functions etc. It would be sorely missed.
It is vital that this building remains in community use and not demolished. Would be as good as or better run as a community place?? This building is also good for disabled people.
Canterbury is an interesting place to live but its historical/church links can be a burden as well as positive attributes. The city is geared to visitors - vis the number of eating/coffee places and difficulty of finding anything but chain store/clothing outlets (a result of maximising income for church a major factor). Emphasis needs to be more inclusive and look to residents (longer term ones, not just temporary students) and encouraging the variety and vitality of the community. Car parks don't fit this bill. Though this may seem the whine of an anti-visitor, I do think students and tourists add to the place but their needs should not be prioritised so consistently.
Tip Top. Leave the building alone. [ NAME REMOVED ] - why don't you do the honorable thing and retire! I intend to report this to Government.
Westgate Hall is vital for Canterbury for those of us who enjoy our customers & those of us who depends on the Hall for a living it would be criminal to knock it down when you think of all the organisations it supports.
It shouldn't close - too valuable to local community.
I think a community centre is much more useful than a few extra car spaces for the Marlowe theatre.
We do not need more parking spaces.
We feel the Hall is a much used and much loved part of Canterbury and thus should be kept for everyone to use.
Please no more car parks! Use the park and ride people!
Who will pay for delapidations, understood to be approx £440,000? Wages and running costs, license. Will council co-operate or obstruct or are you anticipating obtaining a lease. To hold events for disabled and elderly will require alterations to enable access to toilet facilities.
I find it difficult to answer these questions but I think it would be a great loss to the city if Westgate Hall were demolished. I very much hope this campaign will help to save it.
The Hall provides a facility for all at present. To demolish it for a car park is ludicrous when the idea is to keep cars out of the city centre not to provide extra space for the Marlowe.
Excellent facility - would be hugely missed. A city the size of Canterbury needs this.
The Westgate Hall is an important centre for local residents and is necessary for the community in general.
A city the size of Canterbury needs facilities of this nature within the city centre.
Disgraceful to even contemplate demolition of the only community Hall in the Cathedral city of Kent; just to have more parking spaces for the too expensive new Marlowe theatre. Only benefitting people from outside the area not local residents.
It is clearly not used to its potential, appears unloved.
At the moment most groups, charities seem to have a "home" for their gatherings. Spaces for parties of approx 40-60 where alcohol is served sometimes presents a problem. You will need permanent long-term bookings. The Dominican priory often serves as a community centre.
Unbelievable that Westgate Hall is even considered for demolition as there is no alternative venue like it within the city for functions, parties end of term college do's, disco's dance etc. It seems to be used a lot o the time and must be saved!! I live nearby and would love to use it for under 5's activities if they were available every day.
It needs to look more attractive - eg a few plants of the front and indoors - I do gardening.
The Hall needs to be kept as a venue for community use.
Had my first burlesque classes there and used to really look forward to Tuesday nights - and be able to go for a drink afterwards.
I have attended many different events at Westgate Hall over the past twelve years. They being, my Art Degree show, giving blood, church ball and a works do. It will be a great shame to see the Hall lost to only a handful of car parking spaces. I see more worth in building community spirit than bringing a few extra car fumes to the city. My only complaint about the Hall is the lack of windows in the main Hall.
Used to be used by the post office for sorting and distributing Xmas parcels. Helped save it the last time it was threatened with closure!
One of the best dancefloors in the country.
The Westgate Hall was a great venue for the NCT nearly new sales and had good facilities. It would be a travesty if it is pulled down.
The Hall is unique in its size, which is excellent for large group meetings, like salsa night.
I attend Ceroc and Salsa every week and it would such a shame to see that go, Westgate Hall is an integral part of the Canterbury Community and it would be such a shame to see it go.
SO MANY HAPPY MEMORIES IN THE WESTGATE HALL.CANTERBURY COUNCIL GET A GRIP.THIS IS A VALUED BUILDING TO MANY, YOUNG AND OLD.A LIFELINE TO SOME.
The Westgate Hall has always been a wonderful location for the Beverly Big Band we donŐt have music like that anymore, they need a large Hall with atmosphere which is what the Westgate Hall gives, please donŐt pull it down.
The facility is big enough for large groups or small and is versatile with easy access and parking. It is a useful central location and could be used much better than it has in the past.
It has been a convenient location for the NCT nearly new sales.
I like the NCT Nearly New Sale that is hosted there a couple of times a year.
The events taking place are not advertised enough outside of Canterbury - consider Thanet advertising as many people will travel to events.
I feel that now the news that the Hall has been proposed to be closed by CCC it has affected the bookings of clubs etc. It must be stopped and the Hall saved for the community.
I think we would be interested in many of the activities above when we are retired in a few years' time. I hope your dinner dance goes well - I wanted to attend, but [name removed] and I haven't been very well for a couple of weeks.
I hope we can be more support in future.
Hall looks in good condition and is ideal for many activities. I often go to the antiques fairs there. It would be a real shame if this was demolished merely for another car park.
The Hall needs investment so that the above activities can be developed fully
I only found out about it by chance, it needs publicising. I know that there is a Korfball club that hire Kings Sports Hall, they can only get a late night slot, could they be approached? I also know that the Tannery Management Company used the Kings School Pavilion, could they be approached?
This is a blatant case of 'official vandalism' and Canterbury has suffered enough of these already with the loss of so many valuable buildings. The 'council' ought to be ashamed of themselves.
I gather insufficient staff are being employed to cater for the available slots. The income could be improved with the correct staffing levels
At the moment it seems to be the only venue that can accommodate large numbers of people say for a wedding reception and other events. There is nowhere else in Canterbury at the moment that offers this
I am shocked to think the council R considering demolition. How can communities work together as Cameron was banging on about if there is no focal point to do it from.
One point re current management I live literally across the rd but unless I walk past a poster I would never know what is going on in the Hall. Good luck with your endeavours. I would hate to see the community Hall go to more parking.
The Westgate Hall is very expensive. If large meetings are held you have to buy water - no jugs of tap water provided. Coffee per head is 70p - no provision for community groups to make tea/coffee etc. Over the years it has been run down in a rather purposeful manner by a council that does nothing to provide a meeting place for its people. It is a city with no heart.
Apart from salsa, focused on older people. Could have a greater diversity of events (bringing together different ages, cultures, etc.)
I would expect to use my church Hall for any function I might organise, but agree that the Westgate Hall ought to be kept for community use.
This is the only large public meeting Hall within the city and has great access and is well run on a daily basis. To loose such a historic venue would be scandalous especially when the alternative of another car park does is in direct conflict with the council's desire to reduce the number of car journeys into the city. Also, as a disabled person, the current Hall has easy and convenient access and to loose this facility would be nothing short of irresponsible madness.
There seem to be a variety of events and this could be expanded
Firstly, I am amazed at the hypocrisy of the Council. They wish to discourage use of cars in the City and to reduce traffic yet by demolishing the Westgate Hall to provide extra town centre parking will surely encourage traffic. I'm sure only the most deluded of councillors will believe the new car park will be used solely by Theatre users.
Secondly, without the Westgate Hall where will they hold the count for next years council elections??
Poor publicity/ advertisement; it should be a force to be reckoned with, for people to think "Westgate Hall" let's go and have a look...It is a little criptic as it is...For instance i did not know about the Salsa group! People a bit cagey/possessive about 'their' corner.
Needs to be kept as a public facility in short supply in the town centre
Although the City Council owns the Hall, it doesn't seem to be keen to have meetings there. For example the Local Strategic Partnerships could easily meet here but some groups don't, and use charity venues elsewhere. It just needs promotion and responsiveness to potential users.
I enjoy the Ceroc sessions and have felt for some time that the facility is being underused. I think that air-conditioning would make the Hall more comfortable for such events. I think that it would make a great venue for amateur dramatics, shows and concerts, if flat-pack staging to allow for flexibility, were available.
Fine building with a great floor space that could be used by the community for endless events. Do not turn this into a car park!
Events etc not well enough advertised
CCC do not publicise events properly, even those they promote themselves; CCC have failed to do even basic maintenance in recent years
It was a good, venue with the necessary facilities - when rehearsing for The Promised Land.
I live in Whitstable and go to Ceroc on Wednesday evenings in the Westgate Hall. It is a fantastic venue and I would be very upset to see it go and we would struggle to find another venue.
The Hall is an important part of our community and should remain as it is. Its used for a number of community events, it may need modernising or a revamp but it is ridiculous to consider demolishing it to make room for another car park.
I don't really have much to do with the Westgate Hall as it is - I haven't found much there for me. I would like to see it more welcoming of people to go and find out what is going on in the community. Community Hub kind of thing. I am happy being involved in the move towards the community trust!
I feel the Westgate Hall is a valuable location and facility for local people, I already attend a weekly slimming club and would consider further benefits eg. Ballroom dance classes. I believe my younger children would be interested in the idea of a social cafe. I do not feel further parking space to be a priority or a justification for knocking the Hall down and moreover I strongly believe we should be encouraging visitors to use the park and ride facilities outside Canterbury. We should be considering the negative impact of encouraging further vehicles into the city environmentally and also in terms of congestion. I think a local valuable resource is in danger of being sacrificed for the financial gain of parking revenue and not in the interest of Canterbury. A living history day would be awesome!
It is a well loved, used and fully functioning Hall - it is totally un neccessary to remove it parking.
THE HALL IS AN INTEGRAL AND ESSENTIAL PART OF THE SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY WELL BEING OF THE CITY. MORE USE OF IT SHOULD BE MADE BY CCC ITSELF THUS REMOVING THE NEED TO WASTE MONEY ON BUILDING AND EXPANDING ELSEWHERE IN THE CITY.
Maybe drop in cafe - come charity shop
Possible use for Theatrical shows occasionally.
The building is of special interest and it is deplorable that it is being allowed to deteriorate. When the fabric of a building is not cared for then, of course, it will be more expensive to maintain in the future. It is vital to maintain a community centre for people's wellbeing. Modern day living is stressful and the building could, I am sure, be put to much further/better use if people are encouraged to use it and there are more facilities available. Far more agreeable than extra spaces in a car park! People need recreational facilities. My use of the Hall, dancing, each week and some weekends provides immeasurable pleasure. An enjoyable life can only make people happier/healthier and less inclined to the 'ills' of this world which ultimately cost us all money - especially government offices.
Excellent use, friendly atmosphere and family orientated.
Given the right opportunity I have been told that more people would be happy to use the Hall and facilities than do at present.
Canterbury needs a well run community centre. It would be a terrible shame to knock this building down and to build yet another car park.
It seems to be under used on the whole and is a good facility - it is certainly the best dance Hall in Kent for those of us who do Ceroc.
ItŐs a lovely useful Hall in the city centre. Available for all
I think the Westgate is used quite well at the moment. The clubs that use it are always really busy.
Could the Hall be made available for individual dance teachers locally during the day to give private lessons? Maybe not much revenue to the trust/Hall for the amount of time used, but if it wouldn't be doing anything else at a given time surely it'd be better than nothing?...
The Westgate Hall is a valuable community meeting place with a multitude of uses with decent parking facilities. With the general decline in community spirit every effort should be made to maintain a top quality venue offering so much for the local people to meet right across the age ranges at reasonable cost. As opposed to inadequate rooms at the back of business' purely offered for profit with total lack of facilities often forcing clubs to disband through spiraling costs.
Being a student, it's hard to imagine how we could use it, esp. when we have stuff on campus, but if there was a bit more publicity saying that this was available for anyone to use? Or something similar to say that there IS a community space if people want to do something seemingly normal or seemingly off the wall like a gay choir or a Japanese literature reading club, etc... I only knew it existed because of the SWP's meetings there and through the protest to save it.
I regularly travel quite a long distance to go dancing at the Westgate Hall
Where will Election counts be carried out if the Westgate Hall is demolished?
Very little advertising that it's even there as far as I can see.
Attending Salsa lessons weekly helps me leave all the stress home and have a wonderful time. It's the only leisure centre in town, where are we going to go if it disappears??
The greatest deficiency for the Westgate Hall is that few people know about it and its business plan (such of it as I have ever seen put into practice) does not make it relevant to aspects of Canterbury like tourism, where big groups regularly need spaces, or education, bearing in mind the number of school trips from Kent schools that come this direction.
We only use the Hall as dealers at a postcard fair held every 2 months but it is a lovely Hall ideal for community use and it would be a great shame for Canterbury if it were demolished.
The Westgate Hall must stay! There is nothing like it within walking distance and there are other options for a car-park. It would be very short-sighted of the council to close it.
The Hall is a very important facility to the local community, but it could be better advertised on the Council's website. It seems they have already written it off. Much more could be made of the Hall and would be of more monetary value than turning it into extra parking spaces.
The Hall is a landmark of 20th century Canterbury. As a former drill Hall it plays a role in recording Canterbury's history. Its size and location make the Hall ideal as a place where Canterbury's residents and visitors can gather, meet and share activities. Using it as a community centre will ensure the centre of Canterbury retains its soul and is not defined by dead streets apart from those with restaurants, bars, shops and, regrettably, too many drunks in the evening hours.
Invaluable space for the NCT Nearly New Sales, which are held there twice a year. I can't think of anywhere else locally that is big enough to host these events.
I used to go to salsa dance classes and enjoyed them very much. I am concerned that community space/leisure activity centres, so vital to our sense of well-being, are being diminished instead of increased.
THE CURRENT HALL MANAGER IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL. THE HALL SHOULD CERTAINLY BE KEPT FOR PUBLIC USE AS THERE IS NO OTHER VENUE LIKE IT IN CANTERBURY, PARTICULARLY THAT IT HAS A DECENT DANCE FLOOR WHICH IS VERY MUCH A PLUS.
It is definitely a very useful venue and will be greatly missed if this is pulled down and used as a car park. There are not enough such venues
The Hall does not seem to have been used as a Community asset, and has needed a dedicated Sales person to maximise use. Also the Kitchen has been taken out of service, precluding use for larger corporate Dinner Dances etc.
I can't understand how they cost out how much it would be to make the improvements, I go there every week dancing and haven't found the Hall in any sort of dis-repair, may need a bit updating though.
The building's potential is not being realised due to understaffing, and community awareness is low as it is not well promoted or signed for locals or for visitors
Our charity uses the Hall twice a year for Sales and these are very successful, as the Hall is in such a good location. We would be lost without it!
This Hall is a very important part of the community. It is used for a whole host of social events, for which there are no alternative suitable locations. The Hall belongs to the people of Canterbury, not the council. I would regard its demolition, without offering a similar alternative, as a very short sighted and negligent act by the council. The Hall is far more important than expensive 'planters' on roundabouts!
Westgate Hall should be retained. Car parking is the very worst scenario and against the long term strategy of the CCC with reference to the car and the city. The facilities available for the community are dire, never been so few in the 28 years i have lived here. The Westgate Hall properly managed and marketed could be a viable and much needed asset.
It is so important to keep such local amenities. We need to think for the future and not simply destroy local facilities like this.
It is under-used and under-priced.
Would like to see the Hall open more often and run by local people for local people
A living history day would be awesome!
